Fight against a Proposition that’s already been voted on! YEARGHHHHH!
Sorry. I’m not making a statement of support or opposition. I just think it’s slightly ridiculous after the fact. It’s like putting together a rally to protest against Obama’s election….
I somewhat agree w/ SDS and don’t know how much this will help us garner public support, but you kids have fun! I’m sure it’ll be a riot!
(mob-mentality pun, FTW!)
Clarification: I’m just not into protests as a form of progress. I understand the anger and frustration, but I also think we can harness that in a direction which may be less detrimental to both short- and long-term goals of our movement. Protests waste time, resources, and most importantly, annoy the fuck out of people. We don’t want to annoy the fuck out of people, which is why Bravo! cancelled Queer Eye. But like I said, I understand why these protests are happening, and on some level, I think they may be helpful, as long as they don’t turn violent, start storming the bastilles (churches?) or just become engulfed in ugliness.
Definitely see this point of view. And frankly, I kind of agree. However:
Legislation similar to Prop 8 has passed how many times, in how many states now?
I know a kid who’s moms finally were able to marry this past summer. And now…
My heart is breaking. Yes, Prop 8 passed. Yes, I don’t even live in California any more. But I’m tired of waiting, of being patient, and of hoping that society will change itself.
This is a civil rights issue. How many major civil rights battles have been won without some picketing and community organizing?
