Reason #435 the Art Institute of Portland has...
I am in a 300-level course that requires several readings each week. These readings are fairly substantial pieces on psychological theory that will take more than a few hours to read thoroughly. There is one copy of the readings in our library. This is the only way to access the documents. Why? So, if student A is reading and student B wants to read, student B is SOL. </rant>

The Demise of CSS: Why Sass And Languages Like It... →
I…I just don’t know about Sass. Or Haml. I like writing markup! Is that so wrong? And I enjoy writing CSS because…because I’m good at it, I guess? I’ve yet to see any feature in Sass or Haml that is a game changer for me, right now. It’s interesting, too be sure, but not so much so that I feel the need to abandon the languages I know and love.

– Politico No, Politico. Stop being bad at math. A Republican win would cost the Democrats the 60-vote supermajority needed for a cloture vote. The Democrats will still have a majority of the 100 senators. (via squashed)

On Creativity:
A final confluence theory considered here is Sternberg and Lubart’s investment theory of creativity, according to which creative people are ones who are willing and able to “buy low and sell height” in the realm of ideas…Buying low means pursuing ideas that are unknown or out of favor but that have growth potential. Often, when these ideas are first presented, they encounter...

NY TIMES: The "90999" text message on behalf of... →
In the aftermath of the devastating earthquake that struck Haiti on Tuesday, thousands of Americans are sending financial support — through their mobile phones. Anyone with a mobile phone and an account with a major wireless carrier can text the phrase “Haiti” to the number 90999 and donate $10 to the Red Cross. That amount is charged to the donor’s cellphone bill. The texted donations are...
